Our Situational Safety and Tactical Communication Workshop course sets you up for success and is particularly suited to people and organisations that have limited time but still want the essential knowledge and skills to maximise your safety, effectiveness, and professionalism. It is an engaging and insightful day of training.
The six-module format covers a range of human behaviours from passive and cooperative through to difficult and dangerous. The core modules are common across all our Situational Safety courses reflecting their importance:
- Professional mindset
- Situational awareness and Dynamic Risk Assessments
- Tactical Communication skills
- Physical interactions – stance and proxemics
- De-escalating verbal conflict
- Recognising and Managing aggressive behaviour
We devote a significant amount of time to non-escalation through highly effective and proven communication skills and physical actions such as stance and proxemics that help keep an interaction low.
When people are elevated, difficult, or dangerous you will be able to recognise this behaviour, de-escalate or safely disengage.
Interleaved into the training are powerful techniques that can be put into immediate use, such as dealing with verbal insults and abuse, and reporting and recovery from conflict situations.

Our training methodology emphasises integrated skills practice i.e events do not occur in isolation so as soon as the skill is learnt we combine related skills and then transition to practical role-plays as early as possible.
We teach the knowledge elements in a supportive classroom environment via presentations, demonstrations, real-world video analysis, and group discussions.
Then, we devote significant time to practice the skills using adult learning principles.

What format do you run this course?
Our training portfolio offers a variety of opportunities to suit a wide range of needs.
For the greatest change in knowledge, skill and behaviour opt for our two-day in-person SSTC course.
For those with time or logistical constraints we offer this course as a one-day in-person SSTC workshop. In this format you get the key learning outcomes within the six modules but in a more compact format.
How often do you run the courses?
We have a calendar of delivery dates for open to market offerings. If there is something you are interested in that is not in the calendar, let us know!
Contracted clients enjoy the option of agreed and set training dates.
Can you provide training for my organisation?
We offer the full suite of ready-to-go courses or we can craft a bespoke course tailored to meet identified needs within your team. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
Who runs the course?
All our courses are delivered by qualified, experienced and engaging staff addressing real world problems. This means we draw on live examples and personally developed case studies in the programs.
How much experience do I need to participate?
We offer programs to suit everyone, from those who are just starting to explore behaviour change and what it offers, to those who have already been applying the skills in their work and want to boost their toolkit.
Everyone can gain out of the training. Many ex-law enforcement participants comment that they wish they had this sort of training when they first joined!
Is this course relevant to my role or industry?

Having difficult conversations, responding appropriately to conflict situations and recognising escalating behaviours. Its how you respond to these that will set you apart from the pack.

I’m not based in Victoria, can CERT still provide training?
Yes! CERT delivers training throughout Australia, New Zealand and Internationally. We currently have contracted clients in VIC, NSW, SA and QLD, and we are regularly in these locations. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Yes! We have online courses with the same content and same fantastic interactive delivery techniques as our face to face programs. We design our online programs with flexibility in mind, so that working professionals and others can easily access the content at a time that suits their needs.
