Many work roles involve interacting with the public on a daily basis. There are occasions where you may find yourself asking people to do something or stop doing something because it’s the ‘right thing to do’ or the desirable outcome.

Or, perhaps as part of your work you have to get people to comply with a rule or regulation.  In neither situation are you delivering ‘good news!’ and you may often get a negative reply such as “why should I” or “why don’t you do it”.  An untrained response may be to say, “because I said so” or “because you have to” and you are now thinking ‘Wow! that escalated quickly!’

Well, what if we told you there was a better way of achieving your goal.  Through a powerful suite of communication tools called Tactical Communication.  It’s communicating with a purpose – to control, redirect and influence the other persons immediate behaviour.

Of course communicating is only half of the interaction.  Your situational awareness, dynamic risk assessment, stance, proxemics, and gestures are also key to a safe outcome.

CERT are experts in Tactical Communication.  Built on years of real-world experience and research across a range of industries.  We set you up for success!  Backed by proven methodologies to deter and detect, respond and recover from conflict situations.

Want to host your own course in-house?

The Situational Safety and Tactical Communication course delivers solutions that can be put to immediate use maximising the safety, effectiveness and professionalism of staff.

Tangible outcomes of this two-day in-person training course include:

  • See why a professional mindset is the foundation of safe interactions
  • Reveal how instincts play a powerful role in your situational awareness, see how modern life has diminished them, and how you can use your senses to enhance them
  • Perform a dynamic risk assessment for any risk situation
  • Powerfully communicate in compliant and non-compliant settings
  • See how stance and proxemics can enhance your safety whilst minimising the impact on the other party
  • De-escalate verbal conflict with a powerful technique that’s applicable in all facets of your life
  • Recognise escalating behaviours and safely disengage before it becomes dangerous

Interleaved into the training are powerful techniques that can be put into immediate use, such as dealing with verbal insults and abuse, recognising risks around property and making dynamic risk decisions.

Our training methodology emphasises integrated skills practice i.e events do not occur in isolation; so as soon as the skill is learnt we combine related skills and then transition to practical role-plays as early as possible.

We teach the knowledge elements in a supportive classroom environment via presentations, demonstrations, real-world video analysis, and group discussions.

Then, we devote significant time to practice the skills using adult learning principles.

Integrate your training

The SSTC course can be delivered as a stand-alone course or bundled with one of our Defensive Tactics learning programs.  When combined, these courses provide comprehensive and detailed training which could prove crucial to your safety and survival in the critical moments before and during an interaction.

Enhance your training with our suite of allied courses.  CERT Australia can deliver a broad range of training options to support you or your organisation to keep safe.  From e-learning and classroom training through to multi-day practical hands-on courses.
